Used as solvent for nitrocellulose, used for nitrocellulose spray paint, coating production, also used as the solvent of spices and condiments.
It is also used as an organic intermediate.

The method of production is made from propionic acid and methanol.
Mix 5kg of propionic acid, 3kg of methanol and 300g sulfuric acid, heat reflux 6-8h, divide the acid layer and cool the ester.
The salt water of the salt water with the same volume is used to wash the layer of salt water, and then wash it with a sodium carbonate solution to the non-acidic, and then the fractionate for the fractional distillation of 3.5l propionate.
